Hillside First School

School Uniform

Parents and carers are asked that children wear the school uniform, which has been chosen in consultation with parents’ representatives to be easily purchased at moderate cost. It is regularly reviewed to ensure that all items are readily obtainable. All items can be ordered from Bartletts Schoolwear in Wimborne.  Ideally, we ask for the royal blue sweatshirts and cardigans to have our school logo, but this is optional. All other items of uniform are available from Bartletts but can also  be obtained from chain stores, supermarkets, etc.   All children are encouraged to take pride in and look after their school uniform.

Winter Uniform

  • Royal blue school cardigan or sweatshirt (with an optional school logo)
  • Grey skirt, pinafore dress or long trousers
  • Sky blue polo shirt
  • Grey, black or white socks or grey tights
  • School shoes

Summer Uniform

  • Royal blue school cardigan or sweatshirt (with an optional school logo)
  • Blue checked or striped summer dresses
  • Grey shorts can be worn in place of long trousers
  • Grey, black or white socks
  • Shoes or sandals, not the open toe variety.

All children should have a suitable coat for the season.

Forest School
For Forest School sessions, children require a set of clothes that you don't mind getting muddy.  Long trousers and sleeves are important for these sessions, as well as a waterproof coat.  Some families send in waterproof trousers, but these are not essential. Children will wear their Forest School clothes to school.

Footwear
In the interests of good foot development and Health and Safety, we ask children to wear sensible flat black or navy shoes.  The summer option is flat sandals with closed toes.

PE Kit

  • Plain white collarless t-shirt (not polo)
  • Black football shorts  or cycling shorts
  • Children will also require a black tracksuit for outdoor games in cold weather
  • Trainers

Please note skorts are not suitable

Please could parents ensure that every item of their child’s clothing is clearly named. Iron-on or sew-in name tapes are best, as biro fades very quickly after washing!

Jewellery
We do not encourage the wearing of jewellery in school for health and safety reasons, although simple stud earrings are permitted. These will need to be covered with tape or a plaster during PE lessons.

Watches are also acceptable providing they are not of the ‘novelty’ kind that could detract from learning!

Hairstyles
Shoulder length hair should be tied back: this is for reasons of health, safety and practicality.  Extreme hairstyles including dyed / bleached hair or shaven designs should be avoided.

Secondhand uniform
Good quality second-hand uniform is available to purchase via our PTA.  Please contact the school office on 01202 822737 for further information.
